REZEN
What we offer is more than clothes. Haori, hakama, wa-sleeve shirts. No matter who you are or where you came from, anyone can wear it. To put on a garment is to carry a culture. It is a simple fact.
REZEN means “Re:Zen” — a return to zen. It is a unisex brand that reinterprets Japanese culture as fashion, worn beyond gender or era. Its logo draws the lotus, a mark of tradition rewoven for today. Following Umeda in Osaka and Harajuku in Tokyo, REZEN KYOTO opened as the brand’s third store in May 2026, on Kyoto’s Shinkyogoku.
The shop sits inside Somedono-in, a temple on the Shinkyogoku arcade. Within a structure over a century old, the earthen-floor space carries art reworked from the temple’s picture scrolls; deeper in, a painted ceiling, a tokonoma alcove and a wa-dansu chest table. After dark, andon and paper lanterns glow — a single place where temple and mode dissolve into one.

REZEN KYOTO sits on Shinkyogoku, in the very center of Kyoto. Step out and the city is yours to wear — wander Nishiki Market, slip into Gion, and walk to Kawaramachi in minutes. Make us a stop between sights, and spend a day wearing Kyoto, not just seeing it.
Shinkyogoku, opened in 1872, is a covered arcade of about 500 metres linking Sanjo and Shijo. It is one of Kyoto’s oldest downtown promenades — layered with the memory of temples, souvenir stalls and old playhouses, just steps from Hankyu Kyoto-kawaramachi Station.

A contemporary tea room born inside Somedono-in, a temple over a century old. In a space wrapped in stillness, whisk and taste matcha and settle your mind — a special time. Under the temae of Megumi Yamaba of the Urasenke school, you whisk your own bowl of matcha in a special tea-room experience. The room, the light, the sound, the tea ware — a space refined to the smallest detail, an “immersive tea room.” Honoring the traditions of the way of tea while fusing REZEN’s own contemporary staging, enjoy a new tea experience you can find only here.
“RAVE,” a music culture loved the world over, descends on an ancient temple in Kyoto. Born overseas, the rave is an experience where people surrender to music and rhythm and become one, beyond nationality or language. And here at Somedono-in, more than six hundred years ago, Ippen — founder of the Ji school — performed the odori-nenbutsu, drawing people of every rank and standing into a circle of joy; that fervor lives on, changing form. Two energies that resonate across time come together for one night as REZEN RAVE. A beat echoing through the temple, bells ringing at the wrist, bodies swaying with a smile. On the one-of-a-kind stage of an ancient Japanese temple, an immersive encounter with world culture — a night only REZEN KYOTO could create, found nowhere else.
Temple meets mode.
The shop lives inside Somedono-in, a temple on Shinkyogoku. We kept the hundred-year-old architecture intact and let temple and mode breathe on the same floor. Before you shop, the space itself is the first experience.
Somedono-in is an ancient temple on Shinkyogoku-dori at Shijo, said to have been founded in 808 by Kobo Daishi (Kukai). Its principal image is a standing Jizo Bodhisattva — the “Somedono Jizo,” traditionally carved by Kukai’s own hand and shown to the public only once every fifty years.
About fifty years after its founding, Empress Somedono — consort of Emperor Montoku — prayed here for a child, and was blessed with the future Emperor Seiwa. From her name the image came to be called the “Somedono Jizo” and the temple “Somedono-in,” revered ever since as a guardian of safe childbirth.
The temple even appears in the National-Treasure scroll “Ippen Hijiri-e” (Kamakura period), where Ippen — founder of the Ji school — is recorded chanting the nenbutsu at the Shaka-do of Shijo-Kyogoku: this very temple. REZEN KYOTO stands within its precincts. Through what we wear, we slip our arms once more into a Kyoto story over a thousand years old.

めちゃくちゃモダンでオシャレな雰囲気の和洋折衷の服屋さんです。 外観は小さいお寺で、中は洗練されて和洋折衷の独特の雰囲気で、羽織や靴、袴スカート、袴パンツがあります。今までの羽織や袴パンツにプラスして差し色が入っているのが特徴です。入口が2つあるのでアクセスはしやすいです。 Tシャツも売ってありますがかっこいい和風な感じでたくさんの方が購入されているそうです。 全ていい感じですが、私の要望は羽織やほかのアイテムについている小物も別で売っていただけるとありがたいです。
